Farewell and Goodbye Cleveland Fagan
It is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to Cleveland Fagan. Cleveland was a man with vision, open-mindedness, and a clear goal to unify and put family and community first. His children and wife Ruth, and a love for community were clearly his motivations for the enormous contributions he has made. He guided and tackled front-on the work of the Yarrabah community development agenda putting forward a collective vision for Yarrabah that came from the community. He was hard-working and dedicated, keeping the community and his people at the forefront of his work. Our link with Cleveland grew closer over the last seven years and came from his strategic vision of working alongside others for collective success in Yarrabah. Behind the tireless work Cleveland put into the YLF, he invested in people, getting to know us on a personal level and inspiring us to our strengths, to be better and do better for ourselves and our communities. His legacy will forever live on and will be continued by all of us who worked with him. Rest in peace Cleveland.

Tinny for a very lucky Mayi Kuwayu participant from Yarrabah, Qld
After 18 months of collecting Household and Mayi Kuwayu surveys through the community-partnered Yarrabah Counts project, we happily got to randomly draw a winner for the raffle prize of a tinny, motor and trailer.
As discussed with local Community Researchers, the tinny was suggested as a prize to say thank-you to the people of Yarrabah who gave their time by completing a Mayi Kuwayu and Household Census survey.
Local Yarrabah resident and grandmother Susan was randomly selected out of almost 400 people. She was in absolute disbelief when we phoned her with the news that she’d won, stating that she had never won anything. She, along with her grandchildren, was very excited to collect the tinny.
Congratulations Susan and family. We are all very happy for you.

More Mayi Kuwayu participant hits the jackpot!
We have randomly drawn three names from a very large pool of survey participants from the first wave of completed Mayi Kuwayu surveys. Andrew Yooren from Victoria was our first winner of the giveaway iPad.
Now, we are excited to share that we have the names of our next two winners! Gregory Hughes from South Australia and Pat Godfrey from New South Wales have also received their iPads from the Mayi Kuwayu Study! Congratulations, Andrew, Gregory, and Pat, and thank you for sharing your story with us.
We are planning to giveaway three new iPads again early next year after wave two has been finalised. To participate in the draw all you need to do is share your story with us before December 2024. Do a survey today and you might find yourself winning an iPad in the near future.

Making Indigenous Data Sovereignty accessible in a global platform
Members of the Mayi Kuwayu Study gathered in San Francisco for a workshop to develop training modules for the next generation of Indigenous epidemiologists and data scientists. Our aim has always been to advance Indigenous health and wellbeing in a way that is created by mob and for mob. We prioritise Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander worldviews and methodologies, and aim to train people in approaches that support self-determination of Indigenous people everywhere.

Support Services for Mayi Kuwayu participants
The Mayi Kuwayu team appreciates the time and effort you take in participating in our Study. We have curated a list of support services that will help you look after your social, emotional and spiritual wellbeing. Some of these services are specific to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people and the others are general in nature.
We encourage mob to take care of their health and wellbeing. Find the support services here.
